Daemen College has a campus-wide, cloud-based VoIP telephone system supported and maintained by The Office of IT. The implementation of our Dialpad system occurred between December 2016 and May 2017.
At this time, the following is a breakdown of our phone accounts and device count with Dialpad:
260 full-time accounts, 101 part-time accounts, 291 provisioned desk phones, and 50 room phones
Approximately 50 of the old lines remain analog because they are alarm lines, elevator call boxes, and parts of building control systems. These analog lines are connected to our freePBX system. Certain labs and science classrooms are also connected to this system, so they have a quick, guaranteed line to Campus Safety as needed. These emergency lines have been configured to auto-ring the Campus Safety desk when the receivers are picked up.
Some advanced features that we obtained by switching to Dialpad include Caller ID, Voice-to-text Email transcription, Conference calling, call groups, and routing calls to cell phones. The Uberconference system integrated with Dialpad provides free conference calling for groups up to 10.
The Dialpad phone system includes local and long distance calling to the US and Canada. International calling is billed separately, and reports are pulled to appropriately record those costs only to departments that made international calls.
Implementation and adoption of the Dialpad system is supported by in-person training workshops, Daemen’s Phone Support website, and the creation of supplemental training videos.
